Minister Velma Irby, age 79 passed away on Friday, July 22, 2016 at the Heartland Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Greensboro, NC. She was born in High Point, NC to the late Walter Hozell and Florence Gibson Lindsay on May 29, 1937.
She attended school in the Guilford County School System. She was employed by Adam’s Millis Hosiery Mill for 25 years. She later became a Certified Nurse Assistant II and worked for Mary Field Nursing Home and Genesis Skilled Nursing and Rehab. She realized this was the ministry that the Lord had called her to do. After receiving training as a Med Tech, she became her own employer and worked as a Private Duty Sitter traveling between Guilford and Rowan county ministering to the sick until 2009.
She was a previous member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in High Point where she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. She also fellowshipped with Love Christian Fellowship in East Spencer, NC. She received her License to minister in 1997 from the Church of God (Apostolic), Inc. She attended the Anointed Tabernacle and Deliverance Ministries in Greensboro, NC, until her health declined.
She was proceeded in death by her husband, Lawrence Douglas Irby Sr., four sisters, one brother, and one grandchild.
She is survived by four children, Saundra (Dennis) James of Mocksville, NC, Lawrence Douglas (Dorothy) Irby of Gloversville, NY, Kartrelia Crandall, and Jonathan McKinley Irby of High Point, NC; four brothers, Hozell Lindsay of Baltimore, MD, Virgil, Ivey and Larry Lindsay all of Staten Island, NY; eight grandchildren, Thometrius, Jasmine, Brian, Katisha, Stephen, Tiphanie, Courtney, and McKenzie; seven step grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; one sister in law, Aiko Jackson of High Point, NC
Special friend’s, Mrs. Mabel Davis, Mrs. Joe Anne Bennett, Mrs. Izora Peguese, Mrs. Lincene Alexander, Mr. Jason Dawkins, Mrs. Virginia Griffin and many other relatives and friends.
