Shirley Anne Bennett, age 68, was born on April 8, 1952, to the late Leslie and Lauraetta Williams in Brooklyn, New York. Shirley was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 25, 2020. She was raised in Queens, New York, on South Road, a place that will always be known of as “home.” She was preceded in death her parents and one brother, Edward Dennis Williams. She met and married John William Bennett and they made High Point, North Carolina their home. Shirley had a unique personality which was definitely a room brightener. She was a familyoriented person and loved to cook. She took joy in preparing meals for family gatherings. Special times were always at mom’s house! I know some of you cousins can appreciate eating macaroni and cheese at Aunt Shirley’s house. She enjoyed watching Time Warner Classics, especially those Westerns. In her passing, she leaves to mourn her husband of 32 years, John Bennett, whom she was devoted to and enjoyed making a life together with him; her loving children, Peter Laland, Laverne (Dexter) Percy, Kenneth Yard, Jr., and Tanya (Mark) Roberts; two step-children, John “Bug” Bennett, Jr., and Yolanda “LuLu” Sauls; two brothers, Stanley (Ana) Freeman and Leslie (Barbara) Williams; one sister, Vivian (Tommy) Bellinger; (Julia Williams). She will be forever missed and longed after by her 20 grandchildren, thirty-three great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, other family, and friends.
