Mr. Lafayette Hughes, 78, of High Point, NC, departed this earthly life on Tuesday, May 4, 2021, at WG Bill Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury, NC.
He was born in Ennis, TX to the late Jasper David Hughes, Sr. and Flossie Mae Griffin Hughes.
Lafayette graduated from George Washington Carver High School in Texas class of 1960. After graduation he enlisted in the US Army and received an honorable discharge. He later made High Point, NC his home. He was married to the former Deborah Ballard. Lafayette was employed as a truck driver most of his life. He enjoyed watching football and was a true Dallas Cowboy fan. Lafayette's favorite hobby was fishing. He was a member of Christ Community Centered Church.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one sister; Frizella Hughes and a grandson, Rodrick Johnson.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories to his devoted wife of 43 years, Deborah Hughes of the home; two daughters; Ruthie (Jimmy) Rogers and Sandra Hughes all of High Point, NC; four sons; DeLafayette (Diane) Hughes; Ken (Martina) Ballard; Bryant Ballard all of High Point, NC and Reginald (Tyronia) Smith of Atlanta, GA; four sisters; Barbara Hughes, Alice Hughes, Paula Hughes and Glenda (Michael) Conner, all of Texas; one brother; Jasper (Linda) Hughes Jr, of Texas, 11 grandchildren, great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, special friends; two brothers-in-law; John Duncan and James (Doris) Alston
