Donte' Demetrius Ray, Sr.

May 24, 1994 — February 26, 2024

Donte’ Demetrius Ray peacefully transitioned from this earthly realm on February 26th, 2024, surrounded by the embrace of his cherished family and dear friends at Moses Cones Hospital.

Born on May 24, 1994, to Shavonna Ray-Whitfield and Christopher C. Davis, Donte’ graced the halls of T. Wingate Andrews High School, where he joyfully participated in “Red Smoove” and lent his musical talents to the esteemed T. Wingate Andrews Alumni Band. He had a profound passion for photography, generously sharing his skills to assist his mother in crafting heartfelt creations, including t-shirts and the warmth of “Big Mama’s Kitchen.” Donte’ began his journey of service at the tender age of fourteen at A+ Child Development Center, later dedicating himself to High Point University and Guilford County Schools cafeteria until his health circumstances intervened.

Guided by an unwavering faith, Donte’ nurtured a deep spiritual connection from his earliest days. Serving as the assistant youth president at Freedom Cathedral, under the tutelage of Pastor Joshua Davis, he exemplified devotion and compassion. In later years, he joined Calvary Covenant Church under the leadership of Bishop Kelvin Shouse. Donte’ answered the sacred call to serve as the ordained youth pastor of Temple of Destiny Ministries, under the revered leadership of the late Bishop Jesse O’Banner and Pastor Roslyn O’Banner-Gilliam.

Donte’ is preceded in death by his beloved paternal grandmother, Geraldine Davis, maternal step-grandfather, John Henry McEachin and a special cousin, Brady Watts.

Left to honor his memory and cherish his legacy are his devoted mother, Shavonna (Kenny) Ray-Whitfield, who tenderly nurtured him at the family home, and his father, Christopher C. Davis of High Point. His precious children, A’lanna Ray, Donte Ray, Jr., and Kayden Harrington, all of High Point, will forever carry the flame of his love in their hearts. Additionally, he is survived by his cherished siblings: Dishawn Ray of Raleigh, Porsha Ray of Eden, and Donthan Streater of High Point. His family lineage extends to his paternal grandfather, Alonzo Davis of High Point, and maternal grandmother, Beatrice McEachin of High Point. He will also be fondly remembered by his aunts, Erica Davis, Nicole Davis, Jennifer Davis, Tomeka (Darnell) Peterson, all of High Point, and LaChanda (Joseph) Walker of Winston-Salem, uncles, Alonzo Davis and Antonio Ray, both of High Point, John McEachin Jr. of Trinty, two special uncles, Richard Lucas and Vincente Baker, both of High Point.

Donte’ will also be fondly remembered by other aunts, uncles, godparents, and a multitude of other beloved relatives.

In honoring the life of Donte’ Demetrius Ray, we gather to celebrate his profound impact, unwavering love, and enduring spirit. Though he has bid farewell to this earthly place, his legacy of kindness, faith, and compassion will forever echo in the hearts of those who were privileged to know him.
