Devont’e Jamaal Stephenson, age 24, was born on September 21, 1999, to Mr. J. Stephenson and J. Purvis in High Point, North Carolina. His friends called him “Big Boo,” but his family called him “The Protector.” Devont’e protected his family and friends and always freely gave to those who were in need. If you needed him, he would be there for those he loved. Devont’e enjoyed playing sports, such as basketball and football. He played both sports for the High Point Recreational Center. Devont’e was also on the basketball and football team at Southern Guilford High School and Southwest High School. He graduated from Scotland High School in 2017. He attended Winston Salem State University from 2017-2021, majoring in Business Management. Devont’e was also a member of the Young Black Business Entrepreneurs. Devont’e also had a love for writing and producing music. He traveled all over performing and introducing his musical talent to the world and creating a wide range fan base. He had touched so many lives with his wise counsel, genuine heart, and loving spirit. Devont’e was preceded in death by his grandparents, James Stephenson and Magdalene Gilmer, and great-grandparents, Robert and Mary Purvis, Johnny and Maggie Hubbard, and Malachi Rivers and Willena Vereen. He was survived by: his parents; two sisters, T. Quick and L. Stephenson; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Purvis; thirteen aunts; nine uncles; and several cousins. He will be missed by many, but his tall presence, and kind and loving spirit will always be with us to protect us all.
