David Lee Sanders was born on July 17, 1941 in New Bern, NC to James Henry Sanders and Lettice Keyes Sanders. He attended public school at J.T. Barber High School. He moved to New Jersey and later met and married the former Gwendolyn McEachern on March 21, 1971.
He was an avid baseball fan. The Atlanta Braves was his favorite team. He had a sense of humor and enjoyed a good laugh. He also enjoyed fishing, boxing, and gardening-especially growing watermelons. David was a very good cook and his family feasted on his meals.
David became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on September 19, 1978. He and his family were sealed in Washington, DC Temple on January 19, 1982. David was a man who loved the Lord and lived his religion. During his years in the church, he served in the following callings: Counselor in the Sunday School Presidency, Executive Secretary, Counselor in the Branch Presidency, Counselor in two bishoprics and Branch President of the Ensley, Alabama Branch. He also served as an ordinance worker in the Birmingham, AL Temple.
David was the third of four children. He was preceded in death by his only brother, John Henry Sanders.
He is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn M. Sanders: two daughters, Sharon M. McGregor and Audrey D. Sanders. He has one son, David L. Sanders; Two sisters, Elizabeth S. McCrae and Mary S. Spears; grandson, Stephen A. Holt and Fredrick D. Davis Jr.; great grandchildren, Christian and Shanijah Howard and Romello and Hazel Holt; son-in-law, Vincent McGregor and nieces, Cristle Sanders and Alicia Compton.
