On Tuesday, August 22, 2017 Carlee Hopkins was called home by the Lord while at Kindred Hospital in Greensboro, NC, following declining health. She was born on January 12, 1957 in Thomasville, NC.
Carlee’s education included Church Street School in Thomasville, NC and William Penn High School in High Point, NC. She was a dedicated employee of Belk’s Department Store for twenty years where she was a custodian. She served as a school bus driver for more than ten years with Thomasville City Schools.
Carlee will be remembered for the love she showed to her family and friends. She had an infectious smile and a keen since of humor. Always laughing and joking with those she knew. She didn’t meet many strangers and was always willing to help anyone she could. Above all these things she will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, daughter, and sister. She married her first true love William Charles Hopkins Jr. on March 3, 1975. They were married for 42 years, which brought forth two children and many memories to be cherished.
Fondly called “Cotton” by her aunt and family. She will be remembered for many things in her earthly life. Carlee loved cooking, and shopping was her favorite past time. She was an impeccable dresser, loving all the latest fashions, keeping a clean house and nice car. When you saw Carlee you also saw her soulmate Charles Jr. There was hardly a time you would see one without the other. Their bond was only breakable by death. When asked what Charles Jr. wanted people to know about his wife he simply said, “that I love her and I miss her!”
She was preceded in death by her father, Joe Louis Horne; paternal and maternal grandparents.
Carlee leaves to cherish her husband, Charles Hopkins Jr. of the home, two daughters, Tonya Nicole Hopkins (James) and Torie Nichelle Jackson (Darranique) all of High Point, NC; two step-sons, William Davis, High Point, NC and Charles (Janet) McKnight, Colorado; five grandchildren, eleven step-grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren; mother, Cora Faye Horne of Greensboro, one brother, Mark (Linda) Horne High Point, NC; five sisters, JoAnne (Charles) Jackson, Carol (Gregory) Barrett, Jamie Horne, all of High Point, NC, Stephanie (Alex) Horne, SC,, Kimberly Alvarado, MD; two aunts, Ellen Kaye (John) McCormick of Trinity, NC and Mary Beasley, Thomasville, NC; in-laws, Joseph (Joyce) Hopkins, Carlos (Patricia) Hopkins, Mary Sue Hopkins, Robin Ann Hopkins, Avonne Davis, and Ernest Dingle; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
