Bishop James Cleveland Dodson of Asheboro, NC went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday March 31, 2017. His wish was honored to spend his last days at the home of his “Baby Girl” & Son-in-law. The Family will be forever grateful for the abundance of love and exceptional care that was given to this great Patriarch in his final days.
Bishop Dodson, born in Elkin, NC also known as Jimmy to family and friends was the Son of the late Cleve Emmanuel Dodson & Ada Mae Childers; Brother to Betty and Bob Weatherman of Clemmons, Nephew to Clayton and Nettie Childers of Winston-Salem and Brother-in Law to Fay Conrad of Thomasville. He was united in Marriage to the love of his life Virginia Carolyn McBride of Lexington on September 8, 1968. Their family was completed with the birth of twins, Kelly Ray and Shelly Fay in 1969 and Lovie Annette in 1971. Bishop Dodson lived his life with three primary objectives: God, Family and Community. His relationship with each was evident in his daily walk. He watched his immediate family of five grow to a glorious eighteen as each child married and begun their own family. Son Kelly and Stefani Dodson of Shelby and 2 sons, Andrew and Susan Dodson and Great Grand-daughter Aleah of Alaska and Jacob and Emily Dodson of Washington State, Daughter Shelly Burrow and the late O.C Burrow Jr. of Asheboro and Baby Daughter Lovie and Mohamed “Koory” of Greensboro and 4 children; first-born grandson Neil Jones of Asheboro, Victoria, Jayla and Hannah, and precious Beagle fur-baby named Flash whom he loved beyond words. Nothing pleased this Paw-paw more than when the Great-grandbaby was born … someone finally had Pawpaw’s blue eyes.
Bishop Dodson accepted his call into Ministry in 1970. In the years to follow, he went from Superintendent of the Lexington Church of God to his first appointment as Pastor at the Silver Valley Church of God. That was the anchor for the 40 plus years to follow. From the Mountains of North Carolina to the Coast, he Pastored six additional churches: Andrews, Tusquittee, Candler, Bolton, Ramseur and his last Pastoral Appointment of 20+ years at the Clyborn Pines Church of God in Lumberton, NC.
He was Blessed with a Host of Additional Family and Friends that could never be named one-by-one. Each individual knows who they are and how very special they were to him. In Lieu of Flowers, a Memorial Ministry Fund will be set-up at First Bank to Continue the Legacy of Ministries the Bishop Sowed Into. Come expecting a Spirit-Filled Praise and Worship Service as this was the Bishop’s Request. Don’t Cry for Me, Prepare Yourself to Meet Me One Day!
