Barbara Mcghee Stewart

Barbara J. C. McGhee Stewart was born on October 5, 1940, in Birmingham, Alabama. Barbara was the fourth of seven daughters. She joined those awaiting resurrection on August 19, 2010, at High Point Regional Hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eddie Carter and Mary Ellen Carter and her four sisters, Eddie-Mae Lee, Linda Lois Kirkland, Martha Ann Brown and Lorraine Kemp-Batte.

Barbara was raised in Birmingham, Alabama where she received her formal education at A.H. Parker High School, she went on to attend Daniel Payne College where she earned an associate degree, she also attended early childhood development classes at City College of New York.

Barbara was employed by the New York City School system a kindergarten teacher. She was a sheer delight to her students and the faculty, many of her students returned over the years to express the positive impact she had on their young lives. Barbara was also a wedding cake designer and partner of BarSylBre Caterers, she retired in the early 1990's.

Growing up on a farm was an exciting time for young Barbara. She enjoyed helping her mom and dad with feeding the chickens and pigs, picking blackberries and gathering watermelons. She got into lots of trouble with her sisters sneaking some of her dad's homebrew too.

Barbara was a mother of two daughters whom she dearly loved, Felita Faith McGhee and Herschellia Lynese McGhee. She later married the love of her life, Edward Stewart, on August 1, 1992, Barbara and Ed enjoyed 18 beautiful years of faithfully serving Jehovah together, they traveled extensively, enjoyed just being together and adored the new addition to their family, Peanut.

Barbara symbolized her dedication to Jehovah and was baptized as one of her Jehovah's witnesses on January 24, 1970. This was the most important day of her life, and she took this vow seriously. she served Jehovah faithfully down to the end.

Barbara enjoyed many spiritual blessings, one of her greatest joys was conducting home bible studies. She loved to teach others about the wonderful truths found un the Bible. She served as an auxiliary pioneer many times over the years, as a result of her fine teaching skills, she gained many spiritual sons and daughters and was affectionately known as Ma Stewart. Other privileges of her ministry included seldom-worked territory assignments, traveling to international conventions and helping to coordinate food for kingdom hall building projects.

Barbara had a wonderful personality and a great sense of humor. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, baking and country western music. Barbara was a social butterfly and loved to entertain family and friends. She was well known for her German Cheesecake and Matzo Ball Chicken Soup.

To cherish her memory, Barbara leaves her loving husband, Edward Stewart; two daughters, Felita Faith McGhee and Herschellia Lynese McGhee, both of New York, New York; two sisters, Ernestine (James) Wright of Birmingham, Alabama and Mary (Christopher) McGhee of Rocky Mount, NC; one granddaughter, Justina (Francis Jr.) Covelesky of Kissimmee, FL, four great-grandchildren, Christian, Alysia, Francis III and Madison and a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and spiritual brothers, sisters and friends.

Despite her illness, Barbara never complained, even when her death seemed imminent. She looked to Jehovah as her source of strength and joy.

We look forward to the fulfillment of Jehovah's promise at Job 14:15- "You will call and I myself will answer you"- Barbara will hear the call and come back to life again, what a joyous day that will be.
